Redrow Homes has created eighteen new allotments as part of its Cherhill View housing development in Calne which have been handed over to the Town Council for community use.
The house builder officially transferred ownership of the allotments to Calne Town Mayor Councillor Tom Rounds in December.
The new allotments boast raised beds, dip tanks, benches and perimeter fences and hedging.
Redrow chose to dedicate 2224 sqm of its land at Cherhill View as part of its commitment to invest in all the communities where it has developments.
Calne Town Mayor Councillor Tom Rounds said: “It was an honour to have accepted the handover of the newly created allotments at the Cherhill View housing site from Redrow developers.
“These allotments will add to the increasingly popular and practical pastime for the people of Calne.
“With more than 100 people on the waiting list for an allotment, these additional plots cannot have arrived too soon.
“On behalf of the community I would like to thank Redrow for their generous contribution of this welcome community asset.”
Charlotte Munday, Redrow area sales manager, said: “Redrow is always keen to give back to the communities where it has developments.
“We agreed to build these allotments as part of our agreement with Calne Town Council and we’re thrilled to be able to hand across the finished product.”
Tina Macnamara, Redrow sales consultant for Cherhill View, said: “We look forward to seeing lots of local growing enthusiasts enjoying the allotments and producing loads of healthy fruit and vegetables to take home with them.”
Calne Town Council will be in touch with those on the allotments waiting list to allocate the plots. For further details please contact Calne Town Council on 01249 814000 or
