Representatives from Calne Town Council and the Calne in Bloom working group welcomed South West in Bloom judges, Richard Taylor and Bob Sweet to Calne on Tuesday 11th July. After a short presentation they were accompanied on the judging route by Cllr Mrs Heather Canfer, Calne Town Council and Sue Wallace, working group member.
They met with staff and clients at the Mill Race Activity Club to look over their allotment garden and then viewed Castlefields Canal and River Park, the Calne Nature Trail project, Beversbrook Allotments, Beversbrook Sports Facility and Fynamore School. They were driven in style by Tony from Atwell Wilson Motor Museum in their vintage Rolls Royce.
The final stretch of the route encompassed the floral displays in Phelps Parade, High Street, Town Gardens and Beach Terrace. The judges commented that Calne is a lovely town, which is exceptionally clean and that we have a very friendly community.
The judging party finally met with all representatives from the local community groups, schools which are involved in the project and enjoyed a lovely lunch. We were also fortunate that the rain held off and the whole town looked beautiful.
