Community tourism group Calne Our Place are putting their town on the map for Visit England’s national English Tourism Week with an evening of local dining and entertainment on Thursday 30th March titled ‘All About Calne’ at the newly refurbished Lansdowne Strand Hotel.
Tickets to ‘All About Calne’ include a buffet supper featuring products and recipes from the Calne and Wiltshire area. Guests can also enjoy entertainment including local talks and a quiz. Tickets are £15 and can be purchased from Calne Visitor & Community Information Centre, Calne Community Hub & Library and at www.booking.calnewiltshire.com (50p booking fee online). The event will be fundraising to support the work of Calne Our Place and the promotion and enjoyment of the town.
Calne Our Place volunteer and local resident Jennifer Dunthorne said “Calne Our Place has been working for two years to celebrate what Calne can offer to visitors, including its heritage as the home of Wiltshire Cured Ham. We invite all to join us for an enjoyable evening with opportunities to taste local produce and learn something new about our wonderful town.”
As part of English Tourism Week, Calne Our Place is also inviting local hospitality businesses to enjoy a free guided tour of Calne Heritage Quarter on Tuesday 28th March. Starting at 2pm, the walk led by local historian Nick Baxter will be followed by refreshments at Calne Heritage Centre and an introduction to the various ways businesses can access local seasonal information to share with their guests with talks from Visit Wiltshire and Calne Town Council.
Claire Selman, Calne Town Council Publicity & Promotions Officer, said “Calne has so much to offer visitors, from popular events throughout the year such as the Bike Meet and Christmas Festival to a Heritage Quarter filled with charm and history. Calne Our Place wants to make it as simple as possible for those working in hospitality to access this information and encourage their guests to enjoy our town.”
English Tourism Week provides tourism businesses with a vehicle to kick start the season and promote the value of tourism to local residents, visitors, and decision makers. Calne Our Place is managed and supported by volunteers. Follow the group on Facebook to stay up-to-date with their latest news and find out about volunteering opportunities.
