The system is regularly monitored by volunteers. Monitoring of the system is the most effective means of capturing incidents as they occur, and the volunteers provide a vital means of maximising the system coverage.

You can volunteer to monitor the CCTV system by contacting Linda Walters on 01249 814000 or lwalters@calne.gov.uk

You must be over 18 and able to spare at least 3 hours per month for monitoring duties.

Improving The Calne Street Scene

Calne Town Council invests in facilities and services to improve the environment in which we live.

In this section you can find out more about some of the facilities and services we undertake to make Calne a better place.

Floral Displays

The Town Council believes that floral displays encourage an attractive environment for shopping, living and recreation.

To assist in making the most of our environment, the Town Council has installed several hanging basket columns and planters around the town centre.

Businesses have supported some of the planting schemes through financial sponsorship.

The Town Council also maintains four of the roundabouts in the town, planting them to create attractive displays for people driving through the town.  Again, these are supported by financial sponsorship by business.

If you would like to sponsor a floral display please contact Tina Clifford on 01249 814000 to discuss opportunities.

Street Cleaning

Street cleaning, refuse and bulky items collection is the responsibility of North Wiltshire District Council.

However, Calne Town Council has directly employed a street cleaner to “top up” the service provided by the district council and help combat the ever present problem of litter.

The Street Cleaner covers a wide area of the town helping to ensure the environment is clean, safe and pleasant for people to visit.

The Town Council has also purchased a machine specifically for use in cleaning chewing gum from pavements.

Street Furniture

The Town Council has installed benches, bins, hanging basket columns and bus shelters around the town centre to enhance the attractiveness of the area.

Not all street furniture is the property of Calne Town Council.  A large amount of street furniture is the property of North Wiltshire District Council and other organisations.
