Festival of Food & Drink - Saturday 8 September 2012

Calne's very first Festival of Food & Drink took place in the town on 10 September 2011.  The weather was not great but this did not deter the many visitors who came out to support us.  A number of cookery demonstrations took place in the Town Hall throughout the day, kicked started by Lorraine Station of Vowley Farm with her ‘How to Make a Perfect Sausage’ demonstration. Peter Vaughan of The Bistro, Devizes followed with his ‘Junior Masterclass Cook-off’ involving John Bentley Students in the creation of a ‘cous cous salad’. Later in the day, Anita Hodgson of Concept Catering created ‘Canapes to Impress your Friends’ and The Kennet Beekeepers gave a fascinating talk on bees & their honey.

The demonstrations were rounded off with a ‘Ready Steady Decorate’ competition between the Town Mayor and Town Clerk of Calne Town Council. Competition was fierce, but fortunately did not end in a food fight and both cakes looks fantastic!

The Town Hall was buzzing with a food market in the Corn Exchange with plenty of tastings and goodies on offer. A variety of street stalls were located throughout the town which included tasty hot food, local cider and ales, farmers market, children’s fun & games and arts and craft and food stalls of all descriptions.  The planning for next years event is already underway - with lots of exciting ideas and suggestions being put forward - Watch this space!
